Didn’t see this coming.  The Richmond Times Dispatch has endorsed Libertarian Gary Johnson for President.

I’m not surprised they didn’t endorse Clinton.  The Times-Dispatch is widely known as one of the few respected conservative leaning papers in the country.  They are also extraordinarily fair and accurate in their reporting process.

I don’t see this as an endorsement of any particular policy articulated by Gary Johnson, but rather as a “protest vote” of sorts on the part of the paper.

It goes to show just how confused this election season has been. It’s going to be a tough decision for a lot of Americans and no matter what they do, the majority will probably be holding their noses.

I’ll just say one thing here. We get the candidates and the leaders we deserve. This year’s terrible choice is not something that happened overnight. It’s the result of decades of American ignorance and apathy when it comes to self governance. We would do well to remember that next time around….assuming we’ll get another shot at this.
